Cordless Smart Control Goes Mainstream: Hybrid Wired-Wireless Networks Accelerate Commercial Lighting Retrofit

2026-10-30 · Industry News

Intelligent lighting control is moving from "new-build exclusive" to "retrofit accessible." According to media reports including LEDinside, Signify's Dynalite platform unveiled a major expansion this month, adding support for the open-standard Zigbee 3.0 wireless protocol while seamlessly forming hybrid networks alongside its existing DALI2 and other space control protocols. Designers and integration partners can now connect third-party Zigbee wireless luminaires to the Dynalite wired backbone, combining functional and decorative lighting flexibility within one system.

For existing buildings, this change is especially practical. The most painful part of traditional smart lighting retrofit is running dedicated control cabling: channel cutting, conduit laying and high labor costs, not to mention damage to existing finishes. Hybrid networking frees wireless devices from dedicated control cables, significantly reducing disruption and labor, making smart control upgrades far more accessible for commercial, hospitality, residential, healthcare and even heritage buildings.

From KINXZO's perspective, this trend is directly linked to commercial luminaire selection. More retrofit projects now require spotlights and downlights to deliver premium light quality while supporting DALI or triac dimming for easy integration with wireless gateways. KINXZO's adjustable spotlights and recessed downlights are compatible with mainstream dimming protocols, helping integrators deliver "less cabling, faster delivery, scalable" smart lighting on renovation projects. The openness and hybridization of control protocols are bringing intelligent lighting from high-end new installations into the vast retrofit market.
