New Energy Standard Now Covers Spotlights and High Bays; Exporters Should Prepare Early

2026-07-05 · Industry News

What many people may have missed about the revised GB 30255-2026 is that the biggest change is not the numerical thresholds but the coverage. Categories that were previously outside the mandatory scope — spotlights, high bay luminaires and double-ended retrofit LED lamps — are now all subject to energy limits and grading.

For exporters, the key question is how standards align. China's energy efficiency standard, the EU ErP and the US DLC use different test conditions, and the same luminaire can receive different efficiency grades in each system. When planning new models, factories should factor in certification requirements for target markets, so that adjustments made to satisfy the domestic standard do not undermine overseas certifications.

There is also a practical concern about test turnaround. Ahead of implementation, labs typically see a surge in applications and queues get longer, so companies planning product refresh cycles should book testing early.
