China Issues New Mandatory Energy Efficiency Standard for Indoor LED Lighting

2026-07-02 · Industry News

China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) released the revised mandatory standard GB 30255-2026 for the energy efficiency of indoor LED lighting in March, with implementation set for September 1, 2027. It is the first full revision since the 2019 edition.

The new version significantly widens its scope: LED spotlights with narrow beam angles, LED high bay luminaires, retrofit double-ended LED lamps and dimmable luminaires are all now covered. For manufacturers, this means energy rating schemes, nameplate markings and production processes need to be re-aligned to the new framework.

With nearly a year before enforcement, factories that sell into the domestic market or handle engineering-channel orders should confirm with testing labs how their current products will be rated under the new standard, and adjust product lines in time.
