Commercial Segment Drives 40%+ of Global LED Demand

2026-09-14 · Industry News

Commercial end-use accounts for 41.8% of global LED lighting revenue, and indoor lighting for 54.3% — two figures from Emergen Research that together say one thing: commercial indoor lighting is the foundation of global LED demand.

The typical commercial need is not new construction but retrofit: office relamping, retail display upgrades, warehouse illumination improvements. Such projects decide faster and pay back more reliably, making them the most active demand source. New-build projects, by contrast, follow the macro cycle more closely and swing more.

For supplier product planning, this structure suggests: versatile replacement products (downlights, panel lights, troffers) remain the volume core; differentiation such as high CRI, sensing and dimming earns the premium on top. A product line with clear priorities is more efficient than covering every category.
